Fruit Bats - The Ruminant Band [Sub Pop]
If fruits were nuggets of relaxed musical pop-joy, then this band's name would be accurate as to the type of music they produce.

Pictureplane - Dark Rift [Lovepump United]
This is in RPM. This is super banging! Like, there are falsettos and vocoders (in the vein of Dan Deacon, not Chromeo) and so many beats. It is so good.

Sir Lord Von Raven - Please Throw Me Back In The Ocean [HappyParty]
This supa-grüp features a smattering of Oakland-area garage/lofi/pop wizards, including GREG ASHLEY who helmed the fabulous GRIS GRIS. Members of Howlin Rain, Silver Jews, and Nice Boys round it out.

Wye Oak - The Knot [Merge]
Really pretty but also pretty unique and not necessarily what you would expect...boy/girl, Merge records...but not quite She & Him. Listen up!

Generationals - Con Law [Park The Van]
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Could not say no to that first track, or second track. This is like, Tom Jones and New Orleans and Dr. Dog (I typo'd 'dohg' boy that looks amusing) and maybe even Suburban Kids With Biblical Names?

Blue Roses - Blue Roses [XL]
Every blurble review thing everywhere about this British songstress says the following words: Kate Bush Joanna Newsom Bat For Lashes Björk. It is good.

Talk Normal - Secret Cog [Menlo Park]
This is in experimental. Because it sort of is. No-wave, some really incredible guitar tones on here. Girls, two, racket racket.

The Postmarks - Memoirs At The End Of The World [Unfiltered
Another record by these fine folks, like if Nouvelle Vague wasn't covers and played really subtly epic cinematic tunes.

Throw Me the Statue - Creaturesque [Secretly Canadian]
This week is super pop. Weird! This is that fun-orchestral pop jam.

Riceboy Sleeps - Riceboy Sleeps [XL]
Some Sigur Ros-ers make Sigur Ros-y music, and the

Drakkar Sauna - 20009 [Marriage]
These guys are cool. This album is called "Two Thousand Ousand Nine." It features straight-up Americana, harmonies and all, butting heads with vocoders, silliness and tomfoolery. Funnnn.

Various Artists - ZE30 - 1979-2009 [Strut]
A compilation from a late 70s label called Ze. Features lots of butt-shaking disco stuff, plus they also signed Suicide, so, Suicide.

VINYL
Nothing People - Late Night [S.S. Records]
Another winner from S.S. That soothing garage-rock that burns slow but not TOO slow, and rocks just hard enough to groove.
