Eels - Hombre Loco [Vagrant]
Eels' frontman E seems like a real BAMF.
Skeletonbreath - Eagle's Nest, Devil's Cave [Ernest Jenning]
Terrorbird KIND of nails it with this one: think A Hawk And A Hack Saw playing the Lightning Bolt catalogue, but more in reference to the latter's intensity rather than penchant for noisy sludge pop.
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest [Warp]
I found string cheese in my pocket, I forgot it was there. You know who Grizzly Bear is probably.
Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix [Glassnote]
Funtimes dance-pop from French folks. Nothing to hate here, and only everything to love.
Dirty Projectors - Stillness Is The Move EP [Domino]
The new R&B jam "ready for Hip-Hop radio." This EP collects the single plus a bunch of remixes and even an a cappella. This is the sound of hype and talent.
Cale Parks - Sparklace [Polyvinyl]
Tight, taut, explosive percussion heavy post-pop album by the drummer of Aloha and White Williams.
City Center - City Center [Type]
Fred Thomas of Saturday Looks Good To Me unleashes fuzz-space underwater pop bubblings of summer.
Unknown Instructors - Funland [Smogveil]
Mike Watt and George Hurley of the Minutemen, among others, join forces with some other dudes for an album of spaz-prog jams, including a Capt. Beefheart cover.
Passion Pit - Manners [Frenchkiss]
Indiepop for holding hands at the dance club five minutes after meeting each other.
So Many Dynamos - The Loud Wars [Vagrant]
This is like, Dismemberment Plan, and We Are Scientists. Radio friendly, but also not at all bland or bad or whatever. Liner notes are neat.
The Paper Chase - Someday This Could All Be Yours Vol. 1 [Kill Rock Stars]
Scary cello-heavy pop music. Like, being chased by a zombie but knowing deep down that you will always be out of his reach. Maybe.
Liechtenstein - Survival Strategies In A Modern World [Slumberland]
3 Swedish gals girl-groupin really hard. Like, maybe, the Pipettes, except they actually play the instruments. Less produced, less glammy. Great!
Polly Scattergood - Polly Scattergood [Mute]
If Bjork was radio-friendly...
