KUCI listening friends,
On Friday I saw Akron/Family again, amidst the bones of dinosaurs and other dead animals. If I could, I would probably see Akron/Family every Friday.
On Saturday I saw Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay which was very funny. The title is misleading because they spend very little time at the prison camp, but the movie is funny.
I feel like this is a good music week. I feel like most weeks are good music weeks. We should be proud and grateful for the amount and variety of music that is given to us every week by our friends at promohouses and record labels. Thumbs up!
The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement [Domino]
Why they released an EP so close to the release of this full-length I do not know but here is the LP by Mr Alex Arctic Monkeys side project collab with cool folks like Mr James Simian Mobile Disco and Mr Owen Final Fantasy. I didn't pull the EP because it has nonalbum tracks.
Indian Jewelry - "Free Gold!" [We Are Free]
I saw this band open for COMETS ON FIRE in 2006. It was mindmelting. Brutally primal shrieks (not scary though), thump thump pounding, guitars that are superdrunk. Imagine all that in a dark, cramped room with dead lights and a strobe. SO AWESOMEEEEE. This album is really pretty accessible, give it a chance to (strobe)light your heart up.
NOTE: This band's last album is in experimental and I guess that makes sense, so the genre on this one is technically EXPERIMENTAL. It's in new releases though.
Mixel Pixel - Let's Be Friends [Mental Monkey]
This is too cute synthy poplove but superfrayed around the edges and made on broken casios. Definitely will remind you of Moldy Peaches, especially in today's Junoverse.
CPC Gangbangs - Mutilation Nation [Swami]
Remember the time I added lofi balls-out garage rock nonsense from Canada featuring members of bands like the Spaceshits?
Lykke Li- - Little Bit EP [LL]
Remember the time there was a cute Swedish girl who sang songs over music written by herself and Bjorn (of the Peter and John sandwich variety)?
We Are Scientists - Brain Thrust Mastery [Astralwerks]
I totally think this band's first album rules. I don't care how much cred I lose, it's a catchy and fun album. They play self-depreciating sort of pop-indie with a killer ear for melody and rhythm. That is poor music writing. NEXT
Yoni Gordon & The Goods - Buried In The Basement [Self-Released]
If I didn't tell you this wasn't Ted Leo you would think this was Ted Leo. I AM NOT KIDDING LIKE 100% this could be (early?) Ted Leo. There is nothing unlikable about these jams.
Martha Wainwright - I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too [Zoe]
Famous daughter of famous father with famous brother sings biting and takes-no-prisoners songs (she did, after all, dedicate a song called BLOODY MOTHER F*CKING A**HOLE to her father) over clever guitarwork and glitchy casio beats.

Neil Hamburger - Sings Country Winners [Drag City]
LA-based alt-comedy star issues a disc of rants, raves, and thought-provoking heart-on-sleeve sentiment, barked out over pure country music. This is for you, Polar Bear Jack. Check "Jug Town."
