The year is winding down, and since SOME college stations aren’t the unstoppable juggernaut of indie music we are, they take BREAKS over the holidays. So, promo companies stop sending stuff out and poor, overworked individuals (such as myself), can find the time to seek solace in the beds of strangers. At any rate, we only have four adds. Nice and easy. I can get home early and read. Yes ma’am.
Sunny Day Sets Fire – Brainless (Iamsound)
Yes. That is their actual band name. Yes. It is an awful choice on their part. No, it’s NOT the emo mudhole you expect. This is actually a four-song EP from a Glasgowian (that probably isn’t a word) upbeat indie rock group that is quite pleasant. John informs me they were pretty big “in the blogosphere” a while back. My careful process of hermit-like media isolation prevents me from knowing anything about that. I only get information from Fox News.
Babel Soundtrack – Various Artists (Concord)
Soundtrack for the most recent Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu film. I haven’t seen this one, but I enjoyed the hell out of “21 Grams”. His movies, basically, seem to say this: “Dear fictional characters I have created, bad things are about to happen to you for the next two hours. I am sorry, but there is absolutely no way you’re going to get out of them, no matter what you do. Sure it seems cruel to invent a person who will only exist to be the pawn in a malicious game that their creator intends to play with their life, but so it goes.” This soundtrack is two disks, and is “world music” of sorts (with normal film scoring, as well), but as the film exists in Spanish-speaking, Middle Eastern, and Japanese societies, the world music corresponds accordingly. I will admit that I am unfamiliar with a lot of world music. As such, the only names I really recognize in the track list are a Fatboy Slim/Earth Wind and Fire track (which we obviously can’t play, ‘cause it’s mainstream), and Rip Slyme, who are a Japanese hiphop act (and I have no idea why that’s familiar to me).
The Inner Banks – The Inner Banks (DAG!)
This one sounds sort of like Air and the Album Leaf. Do you like those bands? Then may I suggest giving this CD a try? I may? Why, thank you. This has been a lovely garden party. I thank you ever so much for inviting me.
Proud Simon – Shoestring Universe (Self-Released)
Yes. It’s melancholy, occasionally banjo-laiden folksy indie rock. Yes. I realize I add a lot of that. Yes. I’m sorry. Yes. My nose itches.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to watch R Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" DVD tonight, and I should really be getting to that.
