He was highly influential both as a performer and a songwriter on lots of blues artists after him, so If you are a fan of the blues, classic American music, or the Blasters, give this cd a try.
Yvette Landry - Me and T-Coe's Country - I really didn't want to like this album of covers by artists like Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Buck Owens, and Hank Williams, but dang if it isn't good! Classic country. No OPI.
Old Crow Medicine Show - Remedy - This OCMS album sounds like all the other OCMS albums - good! Up tempo, hip bluegrass for people that "hate country". Like Trampled by Turtles if they were actually good.
Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver - Open Carefully: Message Inside. Amazing bluegrass from this outstanding band with beautiful harmonies. This is a gospel album, so it'd very preachy and filled with songs about... well, God and Jesus. You have been warned.
The Altar Billies - Headn' Out West - Remember the Altar Boys from the 80s? Well, now they're a rockabilly band! A gospel rockabilly band. Yes, this is a real genre! And this band rocks! Don't be turned off by the theme - they are a straight ahead rockabilly/punkabilly outfit that just happens to sing about sinnin' and their souls (so not that different from any other country outfit, really).
Mustered Courage - Powerlines - Possessed by Paul James, and bands that sound like them. Banjo-fueled energy and good times.
